Smart screens for a sleek new-build

With large glass surfaces overlooking their south-facing garden, swimming pool, and a beautiful rural landscape, Carmen and her partner wanted to further maximise their comfort. For these homeowners, the solution was crystal clear from day one: with integrated sun-blocking ZIP screens, they regulate their indoor climate in an energy-friendly way without affecting the sleek architecture of their new-build home.

From the design phase onwards, we already knew we wanted to integrate screens into the windows of our new-build home.

Screens tailored to a modern new-build

Carmen and her partner live to the rhythm of the seasons. “In summer, we’re almost always outside: on our terraces, in the garden or at the pool house. But inside, the large kitchen island forms the beating heart of our home. It’s where we come together. Now that the children have moved out, we have even more time to cook together, enjoy long aperitifs, or relax in the pool.”

“The choice for Brustor felt very natural to us. We both worked at Brustor for many years — I as an HR manager, my husband as a production manager — so we know exactly how high the quality is.”

Due to the large windows and modern architecture, the Brustor B1200C sun-blocking ZIP screens proved to be the most beautiful and appropriate solution. “The overhanging rooflines already help against harsh sunlight, but the integrated screens gave us exactly the look and functionality we wanted.”

These screens with a square box were specifically designed for modern new-build homes. Thanks to the design of the box, the screens can be built into the recess of the window. The zip technology in the guides ensures that the fabric remains perfectly tensioned at all times. As a result, they contribute to the architecture of the home while providing the desired sun protection.

Colour and transparency as desired

The sun-blocking fabrics are available in numerous RAL colours. For Carmen, it was especially important that the ZIP screens matched the rest of the design. “Our home has minimalist architecture: light, white plasterwork with black window frames. Dark screens fit perfectly with that.”

There are also many options in terms of transparency. In this project, most screens let natural light in. For the bedrooms, the homeowners chose fully blackout fabrics.

The Tahoma app is a huge asset: we can operate the screens even when we’re travelling.

Comfort in every room

The effect of the screens is noticeable in every room. “We use the screens throughout the entire day. In the morning, the sun shines directly into the living area, so the screen immediately goes down. As soon as the sun is above the overhang, we raise it again. In winter, the screens usually stay open so the sunlight can warm the house.”

Peace of mind on holiday

“Even when we’re on holiday, we can operate the screens. Besides the classic remote control, we also have the Tahoma app installed, which allows everything to be operated remotely. That’s a huge advantage when we’re away from home, because it gives passersby the impression that the house is occupied, and it gives us an extra sense of security.”

Indoors and outdoors

By efficiently controlling the amount of light and heat, the sun protection ensures a pleasant indoor climate. Surprisingly, the screens also have a considerable effect outside. “Because we don’t have anti-reflective windows, the screens prevent reflections in summer. That makes outdoor living even more enjoyable.”

“We are both extremely enthusiastic about the result. The screens fit perfectly with our home’s aesthetics and give us year-round control over light and heat. In the bedrooms, the blackout screens even create a true hotel experience. It’s an investment that makes us happy every single day.”
