He’s the chef and she’s the hostess: at restaurant Kwizien, Thomas and Ellen make their guests feel right at home. As they put it, they welcome both nostalgic bon-vivants as well as young foodies and do so with a lot of love and creativity. In that sense, not much about the business formula changed when the young couple took up the torch from their predecessors in early 2023. What they did do, however, was expand the seating by a third: a stylish patio cover proved to be the key ingredient for success.

Anyone who had taken a seat at Kwizien in the past undoubtedly remembers the warm interior and relaxed atmosphere. The patio was always an important bonus in the cosy setting, and dinner just tastes better outdoors. But as soon as the wind or rain picked up, everyone had to move inside.
In their quest for the most suitable solution, Thomas and Ellen finally opted for an all-weather patio and now can’t imagine their life without it. Under the Brustor patio cover, instead of 60 to 70 guests, they can now accommodate as many as 80, without the weather gods foiling anyone’s plans.
‘As guests arrive, you really notice the wow-effect this has on them. For them, the experience means it’s a great place to sit on colder days, slightly rainy days as well as when the weather is very hot.’
The owners opted for a patio cover with louvered roof, integrated screens, heating and LED lighting. The result was a streamlined elegant design that is a perfect fit for the restaurant’s style. The louvers may be rotated 130°, making it possible to strike the right balance between sun and shade every time. Ellen: ‘By playing with the louvers, we can provide ventilation on hot summer days but also protect our guests from light rain. This ensures our guests are always comfortable.’
The integrated screens on the sides block the wind and low sun during the day, and at night, the built-in LED lighting and 26 black heating elements help create an even warmer and cosier vibe. This makes the patio a favourite spot – no matter what the season.

For Kwizien, the patio cover doesn’t just mean an increase in available seating, but more importantly, an investment in their customers’ experience, one they’ll reap the benefits of for many years to come. Visitors can enjoy their time on the patio longer, more comfortably and more intensely, further highlighting the restaurant’s hospitality. Ellen: ‘Our patio cover rave reviews from everyone.’
‘By rotating the louvres to let sun in or block it out, our guests are always comfortable.’
