How do I clean my pergola or patio roof?

If you own a Brustor patio roof, you can enjoy the great advantage of using it all year round, in every weather condition. The fully automatic slatted roof provides sun, shade, ventilation, and shelter at the touch of a button, making this the ideal outdoor solution. Our pergolas are all made with the best materials and treated with a self-cleaning protective coating (quality coat), but they also need some maintenance to look good and function correctly. We've collected a few tips to make your pergola shine all year round.

Cleaning the louvered roof and structure

The roof is very sensitive to the outdoor elements, making it more vulnerable to dirt, especially when it is located underneath trees and plants. Over time, the roof will collect some dirt. This will not damage the aluminum material, but it is advisable to keep it clean and free of obstructions. The best way to do this is to completely tilt your slats and then remove any twigs and leaves that may prevent the slats from closing. If you also find acidic substances such as bird droppings or tree sap on the roof, clean this immediately to prevent damage to the coating.

Thanks to our Brustor cleaning set, cleaning an aluminum canopy is relatively easy. The job is done in 3 steps:

  1. Clean the roof with soap and water.
  2. Use the degreaser to remove persistent stains and let it dry.
  3. Protect varnish: apply the product to a cloth, rub it on and allow it to dry. Apply every 6 months in rural areas and every 3 months in urban areas.

Ask your local dealer for the Brustor cleaning set.

Cleaning the screens

If you opted for screens on the sides of your pergola, you can also clean this easily. Use a damp cloth or sponge and wipe the dirt away. You will notice that you don't have to do this very often because the fabric is covered with an advanced coating.

Thorough cleaning of the gutters

Finally, clean the gutters thoroughly and remove all dirt and leaves that have settled in the inner edge of the slatted roof. As soon as this has been cleared, you can remove any remaining dirt with a garden hammer. If your patio roof is surrounded by trees, keep an eye on the gutters, especially during autumn.
