Oasis of relaxation on Pacific Eiland’s patio

What makes restaurant Pacific Eiland in Ypres so special? The fact that it is completely surrounded by water and is only accessible via the Vredesbrug. Both tourists and locals strolling down the historic Vestingroute are all too happy to take a break at this restaurant, tearoom and bistro. Nestled amongst the greenery, this fairy-tale setting is a guarantee for total tranquillity. Business Manager Robert: ‘Our focus is on sophisticated cuisine with fresh ingredients as well as a relaxed atmosphere.’ Free-standing sun protection doesn’t just help preserve this tranquil setting; it fully embraces it.

Waterfront shade

Owner Robert describes Restaurant Pacific Eiland as an oasis of relaxation. When it comes to collaboration with Brustor, this isn’t a trial run for him. He had already had shading solutions installed in other parts of the restaurant’s patio. For the waterfront patio, however, he definitely wanted to perfect the set-up .

‘I’m a huge fan of peace and quiet, and my goal is to incorporate this feeling for my customers. I had already had several Brustors installed at the business, but the Twinstor is truly the icing on the cake.’

Robert

The Twinstor is a unique concept that combines two B25 awnings.  You anchor the entire structure in the garden – or in this case on the patio. This is the perfect solution for restaurant owners who want a shadier patio but don’t have the option to wall-mount an awning or install a patio cover. And that’s exactly what you see with this patio. ‘You can barely see the awnings when you don’t need them. There are no heavy post bases that people could trip over, keeping the patio tidy.’

Personalised to match the restaurant

To ensure the sun protection solution was an aesthetic match for the business, Robert chose co-ordinating colours for the housing, fabric and structure. ‘I decided to go for light tones with a fresh look that match the surroundings, which adds a nice touch of class. Black or dark screens would feel too oppressive.’

LED lighting also plays a major role in the overall picture. ‘I definitely didn’t want cold light, but warm, inviting lighting that sets a mood. It turned out nicely. I’m really happy with the light colour; the patio looks lovely, even in the evening. And when the lights are on outside, guests seated inside can immediately see that how beautiful it is on the patio. It expands the restaurant, literally and figuratively.’

Worry-free enjoyment of the outdoors

The closed housings protect the fabric and mechanical parts, and it’s easy to operate the folding arms with a Somfy remote control. ‘The system automatically folds up during a downpour. It stays open during lighter showers, so the patio can still be used and the guests stay dry. The fabrics are self-cleaning for the most part from the rain running off them. Just clean the housing now and then and that’s that.’

Over 120 m² of extra cosiness

The Twinstor provides an area of shade up to 42 m². What exactly does this mean for Robert? ‘Now we can also comfortably seat larger parties outside. Two large tables of ten easily fit under one Twinstor. Since I have three of them, I can definitely accommodate sixty additional guests comfortably. It makes a huge difference. The heavy bases on classic umbrellas take up tons of space, costing you available seating.’

‘The combination of shade, light and comfort encourages people to stay longer. I can definitely recommend a Twinstor to other hospitality businesses, without a doubt. I actually should have done it much sooner. Customers even talk to me about it, how quiet it is and compliment the look. And that really says it all.’

‘When the lights are on outside, guests seated inside can immediately see that something beautiful is also going on out there.’
